The hardest part of watching brexit was knowing how many people there knew it was a terrible idea. The knowing that you could see how stupid it was and could do nothing to convince the stupids in there to realize they are too stupid to make up their own minds. With this trash internet that has infected our society we are at the mercy of the stupids. The stupids let themselves be lead around like sheep while calling everyone else sheep.

This wouldn’t be possible without a bunch of people already working for the new administration over the current one. I’m deeply concerned about how quickly and efficiently they are doing things—the opposite of the incompetence that was the hallmark of his first administration.

Those people are the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

They also happily did the dirty work last time when they put children in cages very efficiently. There’s a documentary showing how excited they were to finally be allowed to beat up brown people without consequences.

Meanwhile we were all entertained by the media showing Trump walking weirdly down a slope and drinking from a bottle using both hands.

    This is fucking terrifying.

I honestly don’t really know what to do. Operations and infrastructure and precedent like this will not be limited in scope to immigrants, if it’s allowed to get rolling.

And where do you “deport” people who were born in America (once they end birthright citizenship and/or just don’t care)?

They’ve already purchased land in TX and NJ (disappointing af, c’mon Murphy) for “detention facilities.” If needed, they could use the same law that was used to intern US citizens of Japanese descent during WW2. There is also recent precedent for separating families and putting kids in cages.

By the way, they told us this was going to happen like at least a year ago. Explicitly. I’m not talking vague insinuations, they spelled it out in Project 2025. This should be a surprise to no one.

This is going to get very bad.

Probably no one can stop it immediately but it’s up to citizens to run interference as much as we can safely.

If you are in Chicagoland connect with your local orgs, I guarantee you there are some people strategizing against this.

Wall Street Journal is owned by the same people as Fox News. It’s another arm of the propaganda, just aimed at smarter victims. There’s plenty of true stuff in there, but they’re definitely not the good guys.

      Reader bypasses it.

The incoming Trump administration is planning a large-scale immigration raid in Chicago next week, according to four people familiar with the planning, the first move in President-Elect Donald Trump’s promised mass deportation campaign.

The raid is expected to begin on Tuesday morning, a day after Trump is inaugurated, and will last all week, the people said. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will send between 100 and 200 officers to carry out the operation.

Bit odd to announce where it is. Don’t go to work next week if you’re in Chicago I guess.

I actually think this makes sense - it’s a way to normalize it.

Like his awful cabinet picks, Trump’s team leaks this information, everyone is immediately upset, but by Tuesday it’ll be, “as expected, Trump carried out raids in Chicago.” Additionally, those he is targeting have a chance to hide, thereby avoiding combining the news of the raids with visceral shocking imagery in reporting. This raid will be more for show, but things will get worse in steps, as we get used it each level of barbarity.

If I’m right, that’s why they released it on a Friday night.

Thank you. I tried using archive extensions with no luck, just got blocked repeatedly. Maybe I’m using it wrong.

Is that the entire article though or is there more?

They’re doing some weird things right now I think. I was posting a big paragraph about peak oil on slrpnk.net a couple hours ago and that’s when slrpnk went down. Maybe I’m just paranoid.

All according to plan, and 50% of the population think they want it 🤣

Have fun Americans, show the rest of the world why being red is a bad idea so we can stop slipping that way for another couple of years. Tbh I would have thought Brexit would have shown that but I guess Americans didn’t want to be outdone on stupid self destructive acts.

The percentage of Americans that are aware of Brexit, let alone the problems with it, is vanishing small.

As an American, I doubt most Americans could even describe what Brexit was let alone the after-effects of it.
