I hear a lot of people say “I don’t use toilet paper, I use [insert alternative here]” but never hear about what is used for the other things.

Instead of Kleenex I go to the bathroom, blow my nose into my hands, then wash my hands. I’ve never entirely understood the need for disposable intermediaries. Blowing my nose Kleenex or not without washing my hands afterwards seems unsanitary so why add waste?

Doesn’t that come with its own issues of reusage though? I think they stopped promoting ShamWow due to these.

You just wash them as you wash clothes, what kind of issues are there?

Some contaminants don’t wash. Certain kinds of bacteria, blood, etc. would be relatively more hazardous than, say, everyday filth. Ever hear of people complaining they can’t get the faint smokey odor off of furniture they received from people who smoked in their living rooms? My home has (for guests) a specialized smoke room for this reason (think a bathroom but just for smokers, not for people who have to use the bathroom).

You need to buy new ones oncd in a while, if this is your everyday concern maybe just use cleenex?

We use a combination of microfiber towels and swedish dishcloths to replace paper towels and we use cloth napkins to replace paper napkins (and sometimes kleenex lol). Haven’t had the desire yet to give up soft toilet paper…

That’s what they say. And, I’ve spent a lot of time in countries that have them. But, i have still chickened out each time lol. But, I do plan to get an add-on kind one of these days to give it a try. Thanks for the reminder

It’s an… experience, having a cold jet of water spray your nether regions, and also a hell of a way to wake up in the morning. Having a clean butt after you do your business is worth it, though. I know they make them with warm water hookups, but mine isn’t that fancy.

Wouldn’t it be better to ask them when they say it?

With toilet paper, it could be that they use a bidet

    Ironically: toilet paper.

It looks suspicious a.f., I grant you, but even when I had a desk job in an office, I’d have a toilet roll in easy reach on my desk for use on spillages - drink spillages - and for wiping my fingers and face if I was eating and needed to use the computer or to answer the phone. Also for blowing my nose, but I’d try to leave the room with enough in hand to do that so I wasn’t subjecting people to that unmistakeable noise.

I buy the cheapest TP the supermarket sells. It’s generally cheaper than most other paper products and works just as well.

Not terrible for it’s original purpose either, but I prefer something slightly better quality for that.

I use a handkerchief for my face, I use cotton barmops in the kitchen, I use cloth napkins at the table. I blow my nose over a running sink and wash my hands after.
