I can totally relate to what you are saying.
The fact that all of this has been normalized so quickly shows how inefficient we are at stopping these attacks, and how defenseless society is to them. It’s such a shame.
This used to be called malware.
Reddit has been shit since 2014, some would argue since its inception. It never properly replaced serious forums that specialized on their own niche, like PC hardware, gossip, cars, or whatever. The subreddit replacements always felt like lower quality EVEN THOUGH Reddit mods are (in general) more trigger happy than those running proper forums. The astroturfing, the deception, the lack of respect for its users, the UX dark patterns, it has all been getting worse and worse. Some haven’t gotten the memo yet, that Reddit serves no one but itself, it’s a cancer.
astroturfing = “Public relations tactic using fake grassroots movements” (used by, among others, corporations, politicians (remember the Trump 2016 campaign on Reddit?), and governments)
UX dark pattern = user experience dark pattern = “A dark pattern is a design feature that subtly encourages users to perform a specific action.” (like Reddit’s “Howdy paddner” error if you use a VPN so that they can de-anonymize you)
Apple is heavily incentivized to lock down the macOS platform and infringe on your privacy in the process.

Will occasionally heil, like Elon
I don’t like to be that guy, however if we play with your idea, there are some issues you will need to consider.
Centralization If we ban centralization then IRC, Signal, Xenforo, vBulletin, you name it will be forbidden as well. There is a reason why we always see some degree of centralization. Federation is tricky to get right from a technical point of view. Even when you have federation, each unit in that “web” will usually have a centralized moderation team and administration.
Proprietary Sometimes, spam/abuse is fought with the help of obscurity. In other words, service providers will hide exactly how they detect spam to prevent spammers from adapting and bypass their technique. Even Signal does this. They have a small proprietary piece of code, specifically designed to fight spam/abuse. The rest of their code is open source as far as I know. Can you suggest a comparable alternative?
Commercial Do you mean that they at most should be non-profit? And if so, why?
You were right the first time. Not to defend Musk’s populist tirade, but I was talking about how he and others in power are using these platforms to inorganically amplify propaganda.
I’m not a free speech absolutist and I do not believe libel should be allowed. But this is about more than that just one person defaming others.
I have now read the article (which OP didn’t link to), and it does indeed seem like this narrative was unfounded and I was right. I could not find any support for eugenics in the article, and the interviewees even spoke against it explicitly.
You should read the article yourself, it’s actually quite insightful.
“If more people like us don’t have children, the world will stop seeing innovation and economic prosperity. It’s very important that the right people reproduce.”
I have now read the article, and what you just quoted is nowhere to be found. I would really like to know where you found the text you quoted.
In fact, neither the article nor the interviewees defended eugenics, at all. They even addressed the issue explicitly near the end of the text.
I’m not defending these people, or saying that they are saints, but there was no indication that they were supporting eugenics. To the contrary, they spoke against it.
I haven’t read the article. Maybe they were just saying “more children are needed and we’re doing our part”. I’m not sure of this is really about them being arrogant. It could be either or.
There is also the issue of companies pinky-promising that they won’t track you but still call home.
But if no other alternatives are available, this is good to know.
Thanks for the suggestion, it looks promising. MX5 has only 2 seats, but maybe one of the larger models is good too.
That clearly doesn’t work, lol.
We don’t have enough wolves.
Another one: Elon Musk is pushing the whole Grooming Gang propaganda on X to cause tensions in the UK. As if nobody cares about victims when the perpetrator happens to be brown. It’s absolute populist BS.
He is also saying that the parliament should be dissolved, and is throwing around more outrageous accusations: https://www.forbes.com/sites/tylerroush/2025/01/04/elon-musk-pushes-for-britains-king-charles-to-dissolve-parliament-as-lawmakers-say-tesla-ceo-is-misinformed/
We have people with obvious political agendas controlling the world’s largest social media platforms, and it’s not just the CCP.
I support blocking Facebook and X from the EU for the same reason.
Don’t lie. When 70% of your search results are Quora, you are going to click, you are going to encounter the login banner, you are going to rage, and you are going to click away.
