It seems like a lot of people here in the US are going to be going “you’re being alarmist there’s nothing wrong there’s no reason to fight just like chill out”, even when there are literal concentration camps. I don’t know how to get through to some people.
Ehh I think celebrities is probably an example of why user-first is bad. They’re given too much weight. If Chris Evans wants to talk about the MCU he can post in an MCU forum. If he wants to go off about Israel, well he’s not an authority and we shouldn’t facilitate that halo effect of “well he’s famous so he’s probably smart”.
A band can have their own website and participate in communities for their genre/location/etc.
I’m painting with a broad brush but I think organizing by content rather than user is better in most cases.
Conservatives are wrong about pretty much everything. I don’t know of a single problem where they have a sensible policy. They’re worse than toddlers.
On Twitter and Instagram you follow users. That’s user-first. You go there to see what so-and-so is saying, regardless of if it’s about cats or politics or their dinner plans.
Reddit, lemmy, and traditional web forums are content first. You go to the video games subforum to talk about games, and the sports forum to talk about sports. You often don’t even read the user names. You’re there for the content.
User-first stuff tends to incentivize bad behavior, I think. It becomes more about who’s saying it than what’s said.
I think content-first social media like forums is far less bad than user-first like Twitter, Instagram, etc.

To an extent. but think about how like some people are super eager to get in on the latest in joke and drive it into the ground. You see it on forums sometimes where someone will come up with a bit, and then some people just want to keep repeating it forever. They’re the kind of person who relentlessly said “I’m on a boat” in 2010.
Hypothesis: Stupider people with weaker senses of self are more likely to use chatgpt. That kind of person is also more likely to adopt the language of others. There are many such people.
Thus, the language used on average changes.
I expect smarter people with stronger identities won’t have much change.
Another benefit of making our living spaces friendly for pedestrians and bikes instead of exclusively cars is people will get more exercise.

I have a tinfoil hat theory that the taxes are kept like that to give people a recurring, low grade, anti-tax sentiment. There are a lot of crazy idiots that don’t want government to exist here, so by making people feel bad about paying taxes (instead of obscuring that by baking it into the listed price) they can win sympathy.

I wonder if it would change anything if instead of a quiz you just like handed people a printout of like a summary of how government works from Wikipedia. Like, maybe convert some people who think the president makes laws.

I don’t think adult content should be stigmatized and quarantined. Why is a game about cutting terrified victims open with a handsaw cool, but a game about licking a clit needs to be isolated?

My friend shares her location with her mother. Her mother then nags her with like “Are you seeing someone new? You’re spending a lot of time in north brooklyn now.” Like, who needs that, or even the temptation of that?
A tech solution is not going to fix a social/mental problem like fear of cheating.
The cops always park in the bike and pedestrian lanes in prospect park, and it makes me so mad.
Personally I feel like if you park in the bike lane for any reason that’s not life or death, people should be allowed to do what they want to your car. Maybe move it. Maybe key it. I don’t care. It’s a hazard for everyone.
I’ve lived here for almost two decades and I’ve almost never had a problem with bikes.
I did once see a driver make a right turn and hit a delivery bike kid, drag him for a few feet, and then speed off. Luckily, teenagers I guess are indestructible and the kid got up and rode away after a few minutes.
If you want better bike and pedestrian safety, the solution is probably build better bike lanes. There are a lot of spots with nothing, or a painted suggestion. There’s a spot near prospect park where they expect the bicyclist to turn right, pass through a lane of traffic, and then just hang out in the center lane with all the cars. It’s a nightmare.
