Like the title said, went to hatch the companion on my main save and nothing happened, I didn’t get the pet and it consumed the egg, I have the slots needed for a new pet but I just didn’t get it

The latest patch seems to have fixed that:
Fixed an issue that caused the Bioluminescent Companion to fail to hatch from their egg. Players who have already hatched a non-viable egg should now see the companion in their collection, or can redeem another egg from the Expedition Rewards section of the Quicksilver Synthesis Companion kiosk.
When I tried a few days ago it happened to me too. That egg doesn’t work.
I reverted to last save before I hatched the egg just in case (even though I’ll probably not continue my expedition save and start a new one anyway).
