There should be an option in the settings to disable restarting to apply updates (though I only kno2 it exists on KDE)

I think pickles got confused from the fact that task manager (afaik) forces you to restart explorer if you try to kill it from there. If you
taskkill /f /imit to death, then it stays dead.
